Mangrove research has been an important activity conducted at Phuket Marine Biological
Center (PMBC) for decades. This presentation first reviews the history of mangrove research with
focus on Thai-Danish collaboration since the establishment of PMBC in 1968 to the termination of the
“Scientific Cooperation Programme (SCP)” in 2000. Then, the most exciting and new results of the
mangrove subproject of SCP: “Mangrove and seagrass connections” is presented in detail. Finally,
new ideas for developing a future mangrove zone water quality management system in the Phangnga
Bay in southern Thailand are proposed.
