A preliminary line transect survey to examine the distribution and abundance of dolph~ns around Phuket Island and ad.jacent waters was conducted in March, 1998. Eight observers onboard a survey boat searched for dolphins following random transect lines of about 620 km. The observed area was about 68 km2.
